Notes: Positions in the table above and in the Google Earth patrol summary are derived from the KTB and in many cases do not match those set forth in authoritative references such as Jürgen Rohwer, Axis Submarine Successes of World War Two or the Uboat.net website.  The goal here is to present the picture relative to PENGUIN and not the absolute position that a ship was attacked or sank.
   
  Kriegsmarine instructions for the maintenance of KTBs state the KTB is to be kept in German Legal Time (normally GMT +1 (GMT +2 in the summer)  Time in the PENGUIN and PASSAT KTBs was kept in zone time changing as the ship moved east or west.  Switching time zones was noted in Parts 3 and 4 of the KTB, switch times in the other KTB parts were assumed based on the position of the ship.
